Daniel Geale trainer interview: "They have no confidence"

Daniel Geale’s trainer Graham Shaw believes the Osumanu Adama camp’s antics have shown a lack of confidence in their fighter, and has laughed off a possible Geale showdown with fellow Aussie Sam Soliman.

Adama’s camp has shown a lot of disrespect for Geale ahead of their IBF middleweight title bout tonight, calling him a “ballet dancer”, “slapper” and seeking to bet their purse on the fight. They have also mentioned the chance of a rematch, but trainer Shaw said this is unlikely.

“I look at that as lack of a confidence in his own fighter,” he said.

“I don’t have to tell people how good Daniel Geale is and how bad his opponents are, you know I respect every opponent and Adama too. He’s the number one opponent, he’s the mandatory.”

Shaw is the head trainer at Grange Old School Boxing. He said Geale’s right hand, which restricted him in his last fight, has healed and that the world champion is feeling “really good” ahead of tonight’s fight.

Soliman has been demanding a shot at Geale, and last month won a unanimous points decision over Garth Wood in Sydney.

Shaw said: “I’ve got no thoughts on him at all. He doesn’t even enter my head, he probably just had the worst fight in Australian boxing history with Garth Wood, the ugliest fight ever.”
