Walker a candidate in race for the Coleman

Taylor Walker has put his hand up to be a genuine contender for the Coleman Medal, leading the goal tally in the AFL after six rounds.

The Adelaide Crows forward has kicked 20 goals for the season.

This comes as a surprise to many who were backing clear favourite and dual-Coleman Medalist Lance Franklin, who has thus far kicked 16 goals for the year.

Walker has stepped up from being an inconsistent player to being Adelaide’s best key forward thus far in 2012. However, there is one factor which may be influencing Walker’s hit-outs this year, and that’s Adelaide’s other key forward and ruckman, Kurt Tippett.

Criticism must come on Tippett. His inaccuracy could be a thorn in the Crows’ side, having kicked as many behinds as he has goals this season. This has forced the 22 year old Walker to step up.

The race for the Coleman Medal this year is shaping up to being exactly how this 2012 season is panning out: fast, furious and fair with a lot of players still in contention.
