As a Broncos fan, I was licking my lips at the prospect of Greg Inglis joining the Broncos from the Melbourne Storm back in 2010.
At the time Darren Lockyer’s career was drawing to a close. I thought it was perfect timing, send a champion out on a good note and bring in a player that could well replicate his champion status in years to come.
We all know what happened. Inglis took a tour of the Broncos facilities, received a call from Russell Crowe and eventually signed with Souths (not before threatening to sign with Essendon).

At the time I was disappointed the Broncos didn’t sign Inglis. However had they signed him, the dynamics of that roster would have changed significantly. The Broncos may not have retained good young players like Alex Glenn, Matt Gillett, Josh McGuire and Josh Hoffman and we may not have heard of Jack Reed.
This brings me to Inglis now at the Rabbitohs. The switch to full back has proved a master stroke in two ways.
Not only is Inglis exhibiting exceptional skills at the back and will start pushing the great Billy Slater as the best fullback in the game, but he is looking happy. Inglis looks like a kid kicking the footy around in the backyard. This is only going to be infectious to the playing group around him.
A happy Inglis is a sight Souths fans should crave for and opposition teams vying for a premiership should fret about.
But even for fans of other clubs, as a general league lover we should look forward to many more years of Inglis lighting up the field as he has done so over the past few weeks.
At 25 years old and with at least another seven years in the game, Souths should sign this kid for life and just maybe obtain that elusive premiership.
