A tragic loss for Irish rugby

On Friday night, Ulster and Munster played out a riveting Inter provincial league match, which the Northerners won by a singe point.

Earlier in the day, Ulster A lost to the Munster counterparts by just two points.

This, though is not what this article is about. Just over 24 hours after the end of the ‘A’ match, an emergency call was made following reports of three men, a father and his two sons, falling into a slurry tank.

Despite attempts at resuscitation, two of those men died at the scene. One man showed signs of recovery, but later passed away at the hospital.

One of those men was 22 year old Nevin Spence, an Ulster and Ireland ‘A’ international.

Tributes will flow in attesting not only to his rugby ability, but his humble nature and kind hearted personality.

This though is not a tribute but a call for the rugby family to unite behind Ulster rugby and more importantly, Nevin’s family. Coming from a strong Christian family and having a deep faith himself, I would ask that you pray for Nevin’s family or at least keep him in your thoughts.

RIP Nevin Spence.
