Weekend action in the Big Bash League will have the Melbourne Stars host the Hobart Hurricanes in the eighth game this season and we’ll bring you the live scores of the action throughout this game from 7.00pm AEDT.

The Stars have had a mixed and somewhat controversial start to their season. They entered the tournament as favourites with David Hussey talking up their chances so much that it irked Renegades skipper Aaron Finch enough for him to hit a match-winning ton for the Renegades.

Then in their second game, Lasith Malinga single-handedly blew the Perth Scorchers away with competition-best Twenty20 figures of 6/7, bowling them out for 79.

Then with the Stars having batted only two overs, it started bucketing down and the chances of a result seemed out of question.

With 7.51pm local being the cut-off time, the umpires were pushed into recalling the players to play just one ball as the Duckworth-Lewis system had brought the target down to six from five overs.

Melbourne Stars won but left a sour taste for everyone including the Scorchers coach Justin Langer who observed, “It’s a bit farcical at the end – we didn’t deserve to win the game, but the way it ended isn’t great for anyone.”

That said and done, the side has now tasted blood and will look to hunt down the Hurricanes in this game, which will be their first home game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The Hurricanes had a good start to the competition with a comfortable eight-wicket victory over the Brisbane Heat.

Michael Hogan and Evan Gulbis were thrifty with the ball before the batsmen cake-walked through what looked like a difficult target.

Openers Tim Paine and Jonathon Well laid the perfect foundation before Travis Birt stroked a 40-ball 57 and won the Hurricanes the game. He added an unbeaten 95 with Owais Shah for the third wicket to notch up full points.

Hobart will look at Doug Bollinger and Ben Laughlin, their two more experienced bowlers and hope for a better showing than their combined figures of 1/96 from eight overs. Against a powerful Stars batting line-up, another such bowling display could prove fatal.

We will bring you the live coverage throughout the game from the MCG and hope to receive your opinions as the action unfolds.
