Eight reasons to watch the next two weeks of UFC: part one

The next few of weeks are packed with some good MMA fights for UFC fans. Below is a run-down of my most significant for the next six weeks.

8. Jon Fitch versus Demian Maia: UFC 156

This fight can go either way. Both are veterans with solid skill-sets but to me the interest falls on Fitch and if he can reinvent himself as an entertaining fighter.

Fitch and Maia must both put on an entertaining fight to show they are still worthy of a title and can sell a PPV card. Fitch is known for his wrestling and Maia is known for his BJJ.

Will they counter each other out?

7. Josh Koscheck versus Robbie Lawler: UFC 157

Josh isn’t my favourite fighter. He’s foxed for illegal strikes, seems to wrestle (lay and pray if you ask me) every chance he gets and likes being the villain a little too much.

That said, Kos wins fights and besides a couple flash knockouts, he is hard to beat. Robbie was meant to be the man back in 2004 but Nick Diaz and the late and great Evan Tanner spoilt those plans.

Don’t let his win-loss record fool you. A bucket load of his wins have come from knockouts and he loves to throw punches.

If Lawler can sprawl effectively against the shot (and that is a big if against Koscheck’s wrestling because it is awesome) and develop his jab, it will make for a great fight.

6. Yves Edwards versus Isaac Vallie-Flagg: UFC 156

Edwards has a great fighting style. Why the UFC didn’t get him back sooner I don’t know or understand because he always puts on a good show.

The guy moves like a dancer and is a major threat from any position.

He alone will make this fight exciting. Isaac comes across from Strikeforce with his last two wins being via decision.

Issac doesn’t run from his opposition and is fighting for a position on the UFC roster, so he will be out to impress.

5. Donald Cerrone versus Anthony Pettis: UFC on Fox 6

Cerrone loves to sit on the pocket and take his chances while Pettis is someone that makes highlight reels every time he steps in the cage.

Remember the guy that jumped off the cage and kicked Benson Henderson in the head? That was Pettis.

With an injury-free win either fighter should expect to be one away from a title fight. Both will bring their A-game and have excellent stand-up. This fight will be a war.

Stay tuned for Part II, which is coming soon.
