Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the top names in world football at the moment and there is not a single player who can challenge them. Well wait, did I say not even a single player?

The lad hails from Wales, is just 23 years old, and his recent form has helped his side annihilate almost every club in England. His name is Gareth Bale and he is a man to watch out for.

This talent started his career with Southampton, earning acclaim as a ‘free kick’ specialist. Tottenham Hotspur signed him in 2007 and since then he has become a force to be reckoned with.

Before discussing his stats and style of play, let’s have some opinion about him from respected people of his profession:

“He made me feel an inch tall. Took me to pieces. He just doesn’t stop running. It’s ridiculous.” – Manchester City defender Micah Richards.

“He’s an amazing, amazing talent and he’s after the Ronaldos and Messis of this world and he’s getting better and better. He’s almost unplayable when he’s on his game. He is a genuine world-class player. There’s nobody he couldn’t play for. He’d improve any team.” – Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp.

Bale has scored more than 50 goals for Tottenham, of which 23 have come this season. He has scored eight goals in his last six appearances, with an average of 1.3 goals per match.

This shows that the opposition has to score at least a goal against Tottenham in order to salvage a point.

He scored a match winning goal against Manchester United at Old Trafford to seal a huge win for his side this season.

He scored his first hat trick in a 4-0 away win over Aston Villa on 26th December, 2012. He then rescued a point against Norwich just four days later and was again on the score sheet against West Bromwich Albion.

His recent game against Lyon in London during the Europa League saw him score two sensational free kicks in the 45th and 90th minute of the match.

Most recently, Bale scored two goals against West Ham with the second, in the 90th minute of the game, from 30 yards out.

Gareth Bale’s success has not only helped his side realise their team objectives but has also given Europe’s two dominant powers, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, a chance to prove their financial mettle.

The Los Blancos unit have already started claiming that Bale is coming to Spain next season. Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola, who will take charge of Munich next season, has made it clear to Madrid they are also alive in the transfer bid.

The initial bid looks set to commence at a whopping 60 million Euros and as far as Cristiano Ronaldo’s world record transfer fee of 80 million Euros is concerned, Bale might just be very close to it.

With widespread popularity and the ability to strike when it matters most, the Welsh international is undoubtedly the next big thing in football.

Bale’s success in the future depends on his next side – Madrid or Munich. When a star player can receive global recognition and a world class tag playing for Spurs, imagine what is bound to happen when he steps out for a global powerhouse.
