Cricket Australia must do its homework

I am one of the thousands of Aussie fans who were upset with the ‘homework gate’ and especially with the way Arthur handled it.

Though he and some of the fans felt doing homework like that is important, Cricket Australia should really focus on the burning issues.

We have batsmen who find it difficult to play fast and swing bowlers on green wickets or seaming wickets and find it equally difficult to play good spinners on dry wickets.

It seems our batsmen always want flat wickets where the ball would come to the bat nicely.

And our spinners are way below the part timers of the sub-continent teams.

The only area where we are good is our fast bowling, thanks to the improvement brought in by Craig McDermott.

So why are we so poor in batting?

From 1999-2008, we’ve had new folks come in and play like masters of the game. But today when a new player comes in, it takes ages before he can be termed as an average batsmen. Why this fall?

This is a burning issue which CA should address fast, lest we will be termed as ‘flat track bullies’.

We need support people from the big group of ex-players who have had great success in different types of wickets.

I can’t think of a better recent player than Matt Hayden. During this series, I was wondering whether Hayden is in the wrong box, shouldn’t he be in the coaches’ rather than the commentators’?

Shouldn’t he be the guy who helps our young batsmen as part of the support staff?

And why isn’t Shane Warne employed by CA as our spin bowling coach? When we have a five member national selection panel, why not have these critical players as our support staff?

Australian cricket needs these folks now more than ever.

I am happy new players like Ed Cowan, Dave Warner, Steve Smith, Moises Henriques, Matt Wade and even Phil Hughes(at least once) showed real intent and desire to give a fight, as was evident from many little fights they put up.

It’s clear these folks want to put in more effort to lift up the glorious banner of the baggy green cricket. But the question is, are they getting enough support from the coach and co.?

I can’t think of a better man for this occasion than Tom Moody, who is very good in building up a team from scratch. And Tom won’t captain the side from the pavilion, the way Arthur is doing.

It’s time for CA to do their homework and listen to suggestions like these!
