Two undefeated clubs in Sydney and Geelong met on the weekend, with a place in the AFL’s top four on the line.

Sydney started well and broke out to an 18 point lead. They were spreading well all over the field and rattling Geelong through the midfield.

Once Sydney got it inside 50, they would get it to either Adam Goodes or Jarred McVeigh, who would get in the right spots to receive the ball and boot goal after goal.

But Geelong had the skill and stamina to not let the game get out of reach.

At half-time, something in Geelong clicked, and Brad Scott found a way to get around the strength of the Sydney midfield, and defy the skill and determination of the Swans’ forward line.

As Geelong started to win clearances and midfield battles, they started to get to their forward line much quicker. And because the game was back and forth through the midfield, the Swans started to get tired, which allowed Geelong to boot goals and claw their way back.

At three-quarter time, the Cats were in the lead, but the margin could easily be demolished by Sydney.

Even though the Swans went into the third quarter with this thought, Geelong kept up the intensity and pulled through with a very good away win.

Simply put, Sydney had a great start but dropped off and gave in to the hard-going game the Cats provided.
