Things we learnt in the 2013 NBA Playoffs (part I)

Nate Robinson has the ability to get so hot that he’s on the brink of self combusting.

In the fourth quarter of the triple-overtime Bulls-Nets game seemingly everything Nate threw up went in, and he threw up some crazy stuff.

He finished with 23 points, just one point shy of the franchise playoff record for scoring in a quarter, held by some bloke called Michael Jordan or something.

How great would it have been if Nate Robinson, of all people, was the one to break MJ’s record.

Speaking of 20 point quarters, Steph Curry is a monster. I’m sorry, it’s just ridiculous at this point.

After attempting just three shots in the first half, Curry went into ‘no one on this court and possibly this planet can stop me’ mode, scoring 22 points in the third quarter alone.

While Curry is lethal at the best of times, when he gets into the zone like this, it’s just scary. He gets to the ring with ease.

He drives and kicks brilliantly. He has fantastic handles and sees the court beautifully.

When those options aren’t on, he even whips out the occasional loopy-scoop shots, seemingly just for the hell of it. It’s as if he’s getting bored out there and just needs to try something different.

Perhaps most impressive of all is his shooting stroke. Curry’s release is so smooth, yet so quick. Oh, you closed out on Curry immediately?

Cool story Andre Miller, the ball is already halfway to meeting its perfectly swishy conclusion.

The epitome of Curry’s game four performance was a moment in that incredible third quarter.

He stole the ball, sprinted to the opposite three point line, found the tiniest bit of space and immediately hoisted a three, just a few seconds into the shot clock.

Normal, sane, people don’t even think of doing things like that, unless they were conducting an experiment to see how quickly they could send their coach grey.

But with Curry, you’re happy with him taking that shot. You’re happy with him taking any shot.

When Curry is in the zone, the normal rules of basketball don’t apply. Forget everything you’ve ever known, Curry will introduce you to a whole new world.

Still on Golden State, that crowd is still crazy. It’s been six years since the ‘We Believe’ eight-seed Warriors toppled the number-one seed Mavs.

Golden State crowds are always great (even when the team sucks, which has been of the time) but those 2007 playoffs took it to a new level. It really drew worldwide attention to that insane crowd.

Now they’re all decked out in yellow once more, and with the help of their team, are recreating that 2007 magic. Why do they even have seats in that madhouse? No one uses them.

Moving on, we also learnt that Brandon Jennings’ maths is below grade one level.

Although likely just for the media attention, in response to a reporter’s question, Jennings predicted his Bucks would beat Miami in six games. They lost 4-0. So close, Brandon.

Hopefully young Brandon showed his working out when answering that question, so that his teacher can go back, see where he went so horrendously wrong, and make sure this never happens again.

Chris Paul is as clutch as they come. End of game situation, guarded by one of the best defenders on the planet, clock ticking, pressure mounting, playoff atmosphere, drives past aforementioned elite defender, help defence slides over with a raised hand, tough angle, floats the ball over aforementioned hand, off the glass, and in. Chris Paul, folks.

Steve Nash had multiple epidurals during the week before moving on to horse tranquilizers.

And finally, Taj Gibson apparently has a licence to kill and used it on Kris Humphries, while Andrew Bogut now officially owns the rights to Javale McGee.
