Angry Sydney Roosters forward Martin Kennedy has used Twitter to hit out at newspaper reports he was set to rat on NRL teammates and NSW halves Mitchell Pearce and James Maloney if selected in Mal Meninga’s Queensland State of Origin side.

“If I’m picked, I will give them everything (Queensland) they need on Pearcey and Jimmy,” Kennedy told The Courier-Mail on Monday.

“I’m happy to give them every little detail if they want. In Origin … we’re not mates any more.”

It’s believed the 120kg Rooster was in strong contention but missed out when Queensland selectors settled on their 17-man squad late on Sunday.

Within hours of Queensland naming its side for game one in Sydney next month, Kennedy lashed out on Twitter saying he’d been “grossly misquoted” by the newspaper.

He took the article to task posting underneath its headline “I’ll turn informer” that he wanted to clear the air.

“1) I was grossly misquoted 2) I’m a Roosters player first and foremost. The mateship we have at the club is unparalleled and 3) Why would I claim anything contained within said article when I’m not in the QLD side?.”

Asked how close Kennedy had been to making the Queensland side, Meninga said “Marty was definitely in contention”.

“We chose the bench based on our mobility, particularly down at ANZ Stadium with its slippery surface.”

“From our own experiences we decided that was the way to go with four back-rowers.”

Meanwhile, Meninga said Queensland’s medical staff would assess Ben Te’o, who suffered a corked calf in South Sydney’s loss to Cronulla on Monday night and begin the process of getting winger Darius Boyd (bruised ankle) ready for Wednesday week’s Origin opener.

“We’ll give Darius every opportunity to play. He got a badly bruised ankle and hopefully with a lot of treatment early in the week he will be right to play,” said Meninga.

“We’ll check everyone out, including the guys who played on Monday night in the morning and make those decision if we need to.”
