Won't someone think of the children?

So a fight in State of Origin between two grown men sets a bad example for our children and shouldn’t be tolerated. Really?

What a joke!

It’s tiresome hearing the same social commentators trot out the line that young players imitate their heroes therefore there must be a crack down on any form of foul play in the NRL, SOO or Test matches.

While not advocating for one minute that players should be able to get away with whatever they want, it seems necessary to remind everyone that these are elite athletes that provide entertainment to the masses.

To ensure that younger players don’t try to emulate their heroes (in regards to foul play) there should be set procedures from under 18s and below stating that any form of foul play i.e. fighting, cheap shots, head highs etc are punished harshly and automatic suspensions are handed out.

Rugby league is at times a brutal sport played by tough men whose main objective is (with the help of their team mates) to get over the opposition.

At times emotions will spill over resulting in fights which are not tolerated in general society but this isn’t general society…this is the rugby league elite.

The only issue I had with the SOO fight was the fact that one side decided to try and break the fight up while the other side (with the usual suspects leading the way) chose to run in throwing cheap shots.
