West Coast’s John Worsfold has ruled himself out of applying to coach Melbourne at the end of this AFL season.

There is growing speculation about Worsfold’s future as Eagles coach and he again said on Tuesday that will be decided at the end of the season.

Worsfold was mentioned as a potential candidate for the Demons after Mark Neeld was sacked on Monday, but he has declared that will not happen.

“Haven’t thought about the Melbourne job being available,” Worsfold said.

“Let’s rule myself out. Let’s do that.

“The main thing I’m clear on is not whether I’ll coach on here at the Eagles but that I will talk about my contract at the end of the year.

“That’s what I’m looking forward to.”

Worsfold expressed sympathy and support for Neeld, who endured a horrendous 18-tenure as Melbourne coach before being sacked.

Neil Craig will coach the Demons for the rest of the season and has indicated he might consider applying for the position full-time.

Rodney Eade and Mark Williams are considered the early front runners for the job.

“I’ve felt for him for the last 18 months and spoken to him a few times to offer support,” Worsfold said.

“We all know what he’s been through and a lot of it is not of his own making and I think he’s handled it fairly well.

“He’ll enjoy a bit of a break before he decides which direction to throw himself back into.”
