Adelaide Thunderbirds have promised to unveil some secret tactical tweaks on Melbourne Vixens in Sunday’s major netball semi-final.

Desperate to make amends for last year’s failure, coach Jane Woodlands-Thompson says the Thunderbirds have been secretly developing plays for the finals.

“We do need to look at what hasn’t worked in the past and what other teams have done against them,” Woodlands-Thompson said on Wednesday.

“We have had the benefit this week of having a lot of video analysis.

“We will roll out a couple of things that we have been hanging on too, see how it goes.

“You always need to bring something fresh to step up in the finals.”

The Thunderbirds were six points clear atop the table and the club has never lost a home final, with Woodlands-Thompson confident their time is now.

“We have got an experienced squad. We have had a good draw,” she said.

“We have learnt a lot of lessons, and some disappointment, from last season.

“This is a perfect opportunity and when a door opens, you have got to jump through it.”

Adelaide last season were knocked out in the semi-finals, a defeat which Woodlands-Thompson said still motivated some players.

“It’s not in our minds. But there there is something that beats beneath the surface – that disappointment of going out a couple of weeks early last year,” she said.

“It is still there. And that has been the foundation driving us forward this year.”
