New York Yankees baseball star Alex Rodriguez is the latest player to rock the game with a doping scandal, and now has the longest ban in history hanging over his head.

The 38-year-old third baseman has appealed his 211-game suspension, which rules him out of the game until the end of the 2014 season.

Rodriguez was one of 12 ballers to be suspended after the doping investigations, but remains the pick of the punch, being the only one to receive a ban of over 50 games.

One of baseball’s biggest investments will now join the ranks of Lance Armstrong and Co. in doping’s Hall of Fame, and will forever be remembered as a cheat that made millions doing so.

Rodriguez underwent a dubious cycle involving testosterone and human growth hormone, which builds strength and hitting power, not to mention his ego.

Since he was found guilty, he has been labelled a bigger baseball villain than the ill-famed Barry Bonds, who remains the all-time home run king at 762, surpassing Henry Aaron’s record six years ago.

With age against A-Rod, along with multiple hip surgeries and a lengthy suspension waiting to be set in motion, he looks unlikely to catch Aaron or Bonds at the top of the home run list.

Rodriguez has been somewhat of a socialite in the sporting world, but his luck has finally fizzled out, leaving him to take one of the longest walks of his career.

However, Rodriguez isn’t throwing in the towel just yet, and is all cashed up to appeal the suspension in court against Major League Baseball.

The home run ace is due a whopping $25 million in 2014, and chances are the case will get ugly quick if it makes it to arbitration.

A-Rod is remaining optimistic and believes he still has five years in the game, but even if he can return, it certainly won’t be with any degree of humility.

Alex Rodriguez is one of the most successful players in the game, but he now faces a period of turmoil and it looks as though he is set to make history for all the wrong reasons.
