St George Illawarra coach Steve Price is confident he’ll still be at the helm next season despite presiding over the joint-venture’s worst-ever NRL season.
Price has failed to make the finals in his two seasons in charge since replacing Wayne Bennett.
He signed a one-year extension to his contract in April, but a statement this week announcing a review of the club’s coaching practices has put his position under scrutiny once again.
Saturday’s win over the Warriors ended a run of six straight losses but Price said he’ll be back at work next Tuesday planning ahead for next season with eight new signings due to arrive at the club.
“I have no issues with the review whatsoever and I’m under contract next year,” Price said.
“I’ll continue to improve myself which I’m certainly going to and improve our football club.
“I’m very confident (he will still be coach). With a new recruitment drive going forward … I’m definitely confident.”
Price has been under the pump all season but the 36-year-old said he has emerged stronger through the adversity and ready to make his mark in 2014.
“I’m not going to lie, it has been tough,” he said.
“Sometimes you learn a lot about yourself and your family and your true friends when you go through difficult times in life and we’ve certainly done that this year.
“I’m just looking forward to enjoying a couple of beers with these old boys and then getting back to work on Tuesday and start moving forward for next year.”
