North Melbourne fullback Scott Thompson has been rewarded for the best season of a burgeoning AFL career with a contract extension running until the end of 2017.

The All-Australian fullback was already locked away for 2014.

He joins Ben Cunnington and Aaron Black who also agreed to extensions until 2017 and forward Lindsay Thomas, who penned a new deal until 2016.

“The club approached me and my manager, Anthony McConville, about a month ago with a two-year extension but I’m really keen to be a one-club player and we came to terms on an extra year on top of that,” Thompson told the North Melbourne website.

“With the things going on at North at the moment, I’d be crazy to contemplate playing anywhere else.

“My future is here and this is the club that gave me an opportunity.”

The Kangaroos have made several significant appointments this week, with Geoff Walsh returning to the club as director of football and Leigh Tudor moving from Sydney as senior assistant coach.

Thompson, 27, tied with Daniel Wells for the North Melbourne best and fairest award this year.
