If you are a follower of Australia or England you will be familiar with a guy named Peter Siddle – oft described as the ‘heart and soul’ of Aussie cricket.

He can run in all day and his intensity remains same from the first to the last ball.

He has been the part of three Ashes defeats, but one thing everyone would remember is his performance in the first Ashes Test match of the previous two series, where he managed to get five wicket hauls in both matches.

But if you look at his performance in the remainder of the series, he was pretty ordinary.

If he keeps that up, he could potentially cost Australia the Ashes.

It would be better to have a look at his performance after Adelaide. If it follows the same old story, it will be better to replace him with either Ben Hilfenhaus or Ben Cutting.

Both of them offer something different.

Hilfenhaus can swing the ball at genuine pace and Australia lack a genuine swing bowler.

Ryan Harris is more of a seam bowler and Johnson swinging the ball? Well, miracles do happen.

So Hilfenhaus would add an extra edge to the bowling arsenal.

Cutting is similar to Harris, but gets extra lift and he can be a genuine contributor with the willow.

But if Siddle can address this issue he might just be Australia’s most important bowler.

Let’s hope his reunion with Aussie bowling coach Craig McDermott will solve the riddle.
