Why I am praying for rain in Adelaide

I’m almost hoping that the showers and rain are forecasted at the Adelaide Oval wipe out a day’s play.

Honestly, I hate to see what I saw at Adelaide last year.

I’m not a fan of the Colusseum mentality.

I don’t want to see anyone collapse like Pete Siddle last year. And hopefully the moderate weather in Adelaide from 5-9 Dec will alleviate the chances of this happening again.

I don’t want to see hurt or injured or exhausted guys from either team.

And I think Test cricket is not a game for 11 men – but a game for a squad of maybe 13-15.

I grant you that cricket is unique. But there are rules that could make Test cricket better and rules that could make ODI cricket better.

Cricket becomes boring when one team bats for two and a bit days.

It becomes boring when a draw is inevitable.

And yes, I understand the challenge set to both teams in a Test match to find a way to scratch out a win in the most trying circumstances.

And I think it has become apparent that directions from the ICC and CA have demanded flat decks, five days of cricket, and to hell with the consequences to the human actors on the green grass stage.

I would say that the Players’ Association management are reluctant to speak up in the wake of Australia’s win in Brisbane.

However players’ health is my only concern.

When Simon Jones slid into the turf and did his knee in Brisbane one could say that was an unfortunate accident.

But if a player drops from heat exhaustion on a Test Cricket field then I’m upset.

I hate seeing Shane Watson limp off a ground but that’s of his own doing.

It’s his choice apparently how he conditions his body, and so far I wouldn’t say it’s been a huge success.

But if any player pulls up sore from overwork or the heat in the two Tests in Adelaide and Perth, I’ll be very upset.

The young chap who ran the Marathon from Athens to Sparta allegedly dropped dead after delivering his message to his General.

I wouldn’t want that kind of tragedy on my mind from a game of cricket.
