In a rare Friday night double-header the second fixture of the night takes us to the west for the ‘Distance Derby’ between Perth Glory and Wellington Phoenix. Join us for live scores and commentary from 9.45pm AEDT when things get underway.

After a bright start Perth has slipped in recent weeks, taking just two matches from their last four matches, and have found the net on only six occasions in their eight games over the course of the season.

So the news this week that All Whites marksman Shane Smeltz will miss up to a month with an ankle injury would hardly have been welcomed by Glory coach Alistair Edwards.

At the other end of the pitch, Perth will be without injured marquee William Gallas, who will again miss with a calf injury, while fellow defender Steve Pantelidis announced this week that he will leave for Malaysian club Selangor, effectively immediately.

Ernie Merrick will be disappointed to lose Carlos Hernandez to a quad injury after the Costa Rican looked to be getting back to his best, while Manny Muscat is suspended and Tyler Boyd is omitted.

The Phoenix head to NIB stadium without a win this season, but coming off a solid point at home against the Wanderers.

Even though the Glory go into this as favourites, Wellington have a very strong head-to-head record against Perth, winning 10 out of 21 matches, with four draws.

This should be a good fixture to cap off a unusually busy Friday night in the A-League. I’m predicting a 2-1 victory for the home side.
