England dasher Eoin Morgan says he and the other players joining the humbled Test men in the one-day cricket team have a big role to play in bringing energy to the tourists.

An established member of England’s one-day and T20 teams, Morgan is in Australia playing for Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash competition.

Irishman Morgan is one of seven players who haven’t participated in the Test series in which England trail 4-0 and face a potential whitewash with just the Sydney Test to come.

“Coming into the one-day team, particularly after quite a long series, as Ashes series are, you always have a big role to play with the energy and vibes that you give off,” Morgan said.

“Everybody gets on really well, we’ve had a pretty solid (one-day) team for the last four or five years now.”

Morgan was one of the players given an opportunity to fill the troublesome No.6 position in the England Test middle order after the retirement of Paul Collingwood and made two centuries and averaged just over 30 when he was dropped after playing against Pakistan in 2012.

While some pundits are advocating multiple changes to the Test lineup, a scenario that could reignite 27-year-old Morgan’s 16-Test career, he argued against a wholesale revamp even if he could be one of the beneficiaries.

“It’s been one loss of a series, it’s not a case for changing the team that much,” Morgan said.

“It’s a matter of moving on from here and building more success.”

Morgan made four and 35 in his first two Big Bash innings and will line up again on New Year’s Day for the Thunder’s home clash with early pacesetters, the Melbourne Stars, at ANZ Stadium.
