When a guy comes in for a game or two he is expected to perform straight away, and the pressure often gets to him.

After dominating grade cricket in Western Australia, and many years in and around the NSW and WA sides, Craig Simmons got his chance – you could say it was his last chance.

To the eye, Simmons is a guy who most would call unfit, but this was not going to stop Craig from showing his doubters wrong.

After dominating the boys from the south, it wasn’t enough for big Simmo.

The boys in pink bowled with aggression, but the ball was flying back over their heads.

Simmons smashed 11 sixes in an incredible sprint to a century.

He accounted for young Hazlewood – the more frustrated he got, the quicker the ball was flying for six.

Lee came in with fire in his eyes, and the wide yorker he had been speaking about as the best ball, was ineffective.

To add even more injury to insult, Cosgrove and Abbot were involved in one of the worst displays of field communication in a long while.

It was finally done and Simmo was run out after risking his own game to help the team.

As Perth raced themselves to an amazing win, all that was being hailed was the name “Simmons” – he had won them the game.

Young Dorf was brilliant in his over, taking 2 wickets. The win was secured and the underdogs from perth were now in the Champions League and the Big Bash Final.

And it is no surprise that a team led by Simon Katich fought back from certain defeats time and time again.

The Hurricanes and Scorchers are two teams that might not please the business department of Australian cricket, but will please the true supporters of the game.

I have heard that Simmons would be a one hit wonder, but as he slotted yet another six, it was official the one hit wonder was a two hit wonder.

His name may still not get attention or the big dollars from IPL teams, but he will just about penciled in for a contract after these two performances.

With guys like Dunk and Simmons being no more then depth players in their normal state conditions, it makes me glad to see the growth of the game.

Many cricket traditionalists have their televisions off while the T20’s are on, but I myself believe that with stories like this, there is a hope for all three formats still.

If we see Dunk, Simmons or even Nathan Rimmington around the national team then I will be more than happy to say that the story line of the T20 game is finally getting emotional.

It’s starting to become the old boys game – the second chance game – and it’s finally getting us to appreciate what we have in this fantastic game that is very represent to everyday life.
