It’s every rugby league fan’s favourite time of year. Our showpiece event. State of Origin brings out sporting passion like nothing else. It’s State against state. Mate against mate.

This current Queensland side is one of the greatest. Among them are potentially a few future Immortals.

They are a great side, but do some of them play dirty?

How many times has a fight broken out and Sam ‘third-man-in’ Thaiday runs to join in?

Thaiday will be missing Game 1 due to injury. Who will replace him as the ‘third-man-in’ if a fight breaks out? Maybe Thaiday will run in from the sideline.

Billy Slater, often regarded as the greatest fullback ever, will often slide in feet or knees first when attempting to save a try. I believe he wouldn’t slide in to intentionally hurt his opposition, but he often does injure them whether he means to or not.

Justin Hodges used to be the one Queensland player every New South Welshman loved to hate. He was often regarded as the definition of a grub. Is he still disliked as much south of the border?

Queensland captain Cameron Smith, the game’s greatest ever hooker, often walks a fine line between sportsmanship and foul play. He appears untouchable, as seen by his cheap shot to Sea Eagles hooker Matt Ballin’s head in Round 9.

Brent Tate might have a smiling deficiency. I’m not sure. He always looks angry, even after scoring a try. In 2012, while Greg Bird was on the ground with Maroons players over him, Tate struck Bird in the head. A low act.

Nate Myles has a big melon. Let me take that back, a huge melon. In past series he’s gone into a tackle leading with the head in an attempt to injure his opposition. It makes for some weapon. One day he’ll come off second best.

Darius Boyd is my personal pick. He has a tendency to snob the media. It’s like an interview is below him. He has followed Wayne Bennett from club to club like a lost puppy seeking approval. No matter how badly he’s performing at club level, Greg Inglis always seems to gift Boyd a try or two at Origin. He’s quite easy to dislike.

For me, Daly Cherry-Evans is a guy I just can’t hate. As far as Queenslanders go, he’s a likable character. Although that might change the day he assists in a Queensland victory.

Have I missed anyone out? So tell me, Roarers, which Queenslander do you love to hate most?
