Sydney-based Hunt (10-9-1) landed some big hits on Werdum in the fight, including one vicious right hand which dropped him, however it was not enough to secure a victory.
Despite the disappointment after the week’s build up, Hunt held his head high.
Hunt was humble in defeat, and showed why he is one of the most popular and respected fighters in the UFC heavyweight division.
UFC 180 was the first ever event the organisation held in Mexico, and the fans were not disappointed with none of the fights on the main card going to a decision.
In other fights, Kelvin Gastelum (10-0) remains undefeated after a dominant victory over Jake Ellenberger (29-9), forcing Ellenberger to tap late in the first round with a rear naked choke. Featherweight Ricardo Lamas (15-3) vaulted straight back into title contention submitting Dennis ‘The Menace’ Bermudez (14-4) with a guillotine choke in the first round.
