Nathan Burns’ prolific November for the Wellington Phoenix has earned him the A-League player of the month honour.
Striker Burns became the first Phoenix player to score a hat-trick in seven seasons during their 5-1 annihilation of Melbourne City in Wellington on November 1.
He followed up with an important goal against Newcastle Jets soon before being included in the 46-man provisional Australian squad to contest the Asian Cup next month.
“It has been a fantastic start for the club and for me personally and this award just tops it off,” Burns said.
“This has been the first time in a long time when I have been able to get full pre-season under my belt and it has helped a lot. When I first came to the club I didn’t really know what to expect but I have been hugely impressed and really enjoyed my time here so far.”
The 26-year-old says he was honoured to score the first Phoenix hat-trick.
The other November award nominees were Adelaide United forward Awer Mabil, Sydney FC goalkeeper Vedran Janjetovic and Melbourne Victory midfielder Leigh Broxham.
