The Sydney International Men’s Final will be played tonight between Mikhail Kukushkin and Victor Troicki in the tournaments first all qualifier Final. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:30 pm (AEDT).

Both these men have had an extremely good run this year in Sydney and with 250 ATP Points on the line and a significant ranking boost, this would make the perfect start to 2015 for both of these men.

After reasonably comfortable semi-final wins, both men have a really good chance of winning this encounter as the odds suggest.

Troicki started his campaign with a comfortable win over Martin Kilzan before coming from behind against Pabio Andujar. His semi-final performance over Gilles Muller was both impressive and composed leaving many tennis fanatics to feel like he has to be the favourite going into this match.

Kukushkin on the other hand has been equally as impressive. A stunning win against Juan Martin Del Potro was backed up by another consistant performance against Leonardo Mayer in the semi-final yesterday.

His hard work and consistency of shot from the baseline is similar to that of David Ferrer’s. His patience and poise under pressure will indeed test the patience of Troicki’s aggressive game, yet will he still have enough fire power to damage the Serb?

My answer at this point would be no.

Their head to head encounters stand at one match all, yet one of those encounters was in Australia just three years ago where Kukushkin prevailed in five sets. Since then both players have struggled to find consistency in performance and temperament with their tennis, leaving many fans to feel that this is a massive match for both players.

A win here starts their 2015 campaign off to a flying start and gives one player a massive confidence boost heading to Melbourne Park next week.

Kukushkin has been solid so far in the tournament, yet I feel as if Troicki’s aggressive game will get the better of the man from Kazakstan. It should be a tight one but I am backing the Serb to win in 3 sets on Ken Rosewell Arena.

Will the Serbian get the job done tonight?
