Cummins in, Doherty out for Australia

Pat Cummins will replace Xavier Doherty in the only change to the Australian XI for the side’s last World Cup pool match.

But skipper Michael Clarke said it would be “silly” to think the team would remain unchanged moving into the finals.

Spinner Doherty was brought into the team for their 64-run victory over Sri Lanka at the SCG on Sunday.

But selectors have instead named paceman Cummins for Saturday’s Bellerive Oval fixture.

Shane Watson remains in the side after his half century against Sri Lanka.

“I’ve always been a big fan of spin bowling,” Michael Clarke said after the Sri Lankan match.

“Obviously wickets determine how big a part they play, but I still think change of pace is a massive part of any form of the game.

“Sometimes it’s not necessarily just that the ball is spinning or not spinning. “It might be the tempo of the game, quickening it up by getting through a few overs, taking pace off the ball.”
