Matt Toomua is a flyhalf and must play flyhalf if the Wallabies are to have any chance of winning the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

Toomua has been in amazing form for the past two seasons when he plays flyhalf, but it seems to me that he just doesn’t have his usual influence on the game when positioned at inside centre.

His rush up defence is one of the reasons. But if Toomua were to play flyhalf for the Wallabies, who would take his position at inside centre?

Many people would say that Christian Lealiifano would fill Toomua’s absence at inside centre, but lately, with the form he has been in, I don’t think that Lealiifano is man for the job.

Now Beale is another story, he is an amazing player. But with a horrible off-field history it makes it hard for me to like him. Beale is a risk but when he does play well, he brings a certain x-factor to the game that is incredible.

I know that Micheal Cheika is training Israel Folau up for his switch in positions to outside centre, but I personally think Folau would thrive at inside centre.

My candidates to play inside centre if Toomua plays flyhalf are: Kyle Goodwin (Western Force), Kurtley Beale (Waratahs), Israel Folau (Waratahs) and James O’Connor (Reds).

Having Folau there would allow us to keep the beast that is Tevita Kuridrani at outside centre, while O’Connor could play there against a team like Fiji and then revert to fullback.

Another option could be Samu Kerevi (Reds), who usually plays outside centre but has experience at inside centre during the NRC. It would be great to see Richard Graham give him a run in that position for this Super Rugby season.
