Heading into Round 7, there’s likely a lot on your mind regarding your Supercoach team.

Before getting into this week’s Best Buys, let’s review last week’s selections.

Coming in at number one was Sydney’s Josh Kennedy, coming in at a bargain price. He smashed out his highest score of the season against the Dees with a very handy 135.

At number two was Patrick Dangerfield. He didn’t top the ton, but was serviceable with 90 against the Suns.
David Mundy was yet to score below 102 this season, and last week he continued that form with 113 against Essendon.

I was less successful at number four with my selection of Jasper Pittard, he scored his lowest of the season with just 59 points to show for his efforts against the Eagles.

Brodie Grundy at number five did well despite Witts’ return, earning himself 87 points against the Cats.
Special mention Jack Ziebell at a super cheap price repaid the 0.5% of people who took my advice last week with a very nice 102 against the Tigers.

The Suns have some serious injury issues and Josh Glenn didn’t survive that, if you weren’t absolutely desperate for a rookie last week you’d be happy you weren’t, because he scored 36 and isn’t playing this week due to an ankle problem!

Now, onto this week’s best buys!

The top 5

1. David Armitage (MID, $590,500)
I’m loving Armitage’s season so far. In the absence of the great man Lenny Hayes, Armitage has taken his game to a new level. Last season played very well but this season is very SuperCoach relevant due to being the Saints main inside man. His running game has improved too so is running out games for longer then he has before. Since Round 2 he has scored 129, 139, 108, 137 and 134. Against the Crows depleted midfield this week with some crucial contested players out, Armitage should once again do very well on the inside.

2. Daniel McKenzie (DEF/MID, $117,300)
The Saints love D-Mac, and has scores of 63 and 80 to begin his Supercoach career and looks the most likely rookie option of this week and is named on the field. He has a breakeven of -74, get him in.

3. Tom Mitchell (FWD/MID, $405,600)
He’d be higher if I were more sure on his job security. How safe is he in the Sydney side? He’s produced performances like he has the past fortnight before and has been sent back to the ressies. Nevertheless scores of 114 and 125 to begin the season may be too much to ignore. On top of that has a breakeven of just four at his price, he’ll skyrocket.

4. Callan Ward (MID, $584,300)
Ward has proven by his last season production that he can be an elite midfielder, and his numbers haven’t been bad at all this season with scores of 99, 106, 110, 140, 84 and 131. Comes up against the Blues at Etihad Stadium this week. Is probably quite a safe option. Consistent but has the potential to go high as well.

5. Tom Bell (FWD/MID, $469,400)
Carlton have had a lot of issues this year, but Tom Bell is an absolute brute of a man and has done very well so far this season. Has scored 143 twice, 115 against the Tigers and 81 against the Pies. Scores of 68 and 69 occurred in Round 2 and 3 respectively so may be prone to a lowpoint every now and then, but also has a huge ceiling. Is a goalkicker and loves to tackle. Kudos to anyone who got on early, he’s really paid dividends in recent weeks.

Steve Johnson (MID, $425,700) – Is at a bargain price but misses out on the top five due to question marks. Scored 131 against the reigning premiers in Round 1 and went on a streak for a month with scores between 50 and 70. Last week responded to getting the green vest a week earlier with 130. I would personally like to see him string another 100+ performance to be sure, but his breakeven is 60. Choose at your own risk.

Liam Picken (DEF, $492,800) – Has been released from tagging duties in recent weeks to score 143, 140 and 119. Risky, have the Bulldogs learnt from a possible mistake in letting David Armitage run around for 45 disposals last week, or Jack Steven for 30+? Comes up against the Dockers this week so he may tag again. If he doesn’t tag this week, he may not for a while, his work as an inside midfielder has been very good in recent weeks and is perhaps of more value with Liberatore out.

The Watchlist

Tom Rockliff – Is $494,000 with a breakeven of 140 this week so has further to drop. Scored 97 last week so signs are showing of getting back to his usual self. Takes on Port Adelaide at the Gabba this week, so watch closely.

Jake Lever – A Supercoach ‘rookie’ who scored 95 on debut last week courtesy of 10 marks. Well have to play against one of Bruce, Hickey or Riewoldt this week so will be a challenge, but if he can perform well this week and his job security looks good, should be a lock for many teams to downgrade to heading into Round 8.
