Hawthorn primed to Dock points from Fremantle

At the mouth of the Swan River the port of Fremantle lies
It’s a busy sort of place although it’s fairly small in size,
In and out of the harbour has sailed many a mighty ship
But there’s one boat they’ve never seen – the elusive ‘premier’ ship.

The Dockers had their chances once a couple of years ago
But Hawthorn were triumphant against the odds you know,
For the media and ‘experts’ were emphatic Freo’d win
But when the final siren went, where was Crowley’s grin?

Melbourne had been invaded by a mob of Dockers fans
They drove across the Nullabour in their silly purple vans,
There was a media circus that just went on and on and on
So many wrote the Hawks off and said all hope was gone.

But Nat Fyfe seemed off target and Hayden had a shocker
Poor kicking cost the game and Ross Lyon went off his rocker,
Though Freo fought back towards the end and closed the gap to three
They couldn’t catch the Hawks as they surged on to victory.

Brian Lake was superb and deserved his Norm Smith Medal
All the usual suspects kept their feet firmly on the pedal,
Smithy kicked outside fifty; I’ll admit I thought he couldn’t
And then the Hawks defied the odds when many said they wouldn’t.

On the AFL ladder this year the Dockers sit on top
They’ve won almost every game thus far but that’s about to stop,
‘Cause this round they play in Lonnie where Hawthorn rarely lose
There can only be one winner and I know which team I’ll choose!
