The transfer window always seems to bring up the most bizarre and exciting transfers, and deadline day sees clubs rushing to sign anyone for anything. This season didn’t disappoint.

The biggest drama was be the David de Gea saga between Manchester United and Real Madrid. Long story short, the clubs initially agreed a fee and a swap deal half an hour before the Spanish window was closed, but couldn’t get the paperwork delivered in time.

Manchester City spent the most money out of any Premier League club, £154.2 million, with Kevin De Bruyne, Nicolas Otamendi and Raheem Sterling costing them £52 million, £28.5 million and £49 million respectively.

Rivals Manchester United created history, with Anthony Martial’s deal making him the most expensive teenager ever. The striker is reported to have signed a five-year deal with a fee of £36 million but that could rise to £54 million.

Saido Berahino created the biggest controversy of deadline day, the striker writing on Twitter “Sad how I can’t say exactly how the club has treated me but I can officially say I will never play Jeremy Peace.”

However his escape to Tottenham wasn’t complete and he will have to face the consequences, already being fined, while new Marquee signing Salomon Rondon from Zenit St Petersburg looks likely to stop Berahino from a first-team place.

Slaven Bilic was the busiest on transfer deadline day, signing four players. The Croatian was able to secure Alex Song back on loan from Barcelona, and also Victor Moses from Chelsea.

West Ham bolstered their attacking options, signing Nikitia Jelavic from Hull City for £2 million and winger Michail Antonio from Nottingham Forest for £7 million.

Emmanuel Adebayor was unable to make a loan transfer to Hammers, as the side already have a maximum of two domestic loans, signing Arsenal’s Carl Jenkinson on loan early in the window. Dimitri Payet has been outstanding in his first four matches – one of the singings of the summer.

Arsenal had an unusual transfer window, only signing goalkeeper Petr Cech from Chelsea. They were the only club in the top five European leagues not to have signed an outfield player.

Liverpool went on another transfer spree, having sold want-away forward Raheem Sterling to City. Christian Benteke was their most expensive signing, followed by attacking midfielder Roberto Firmino, and then defender Nathanial Clyne.

Chelsea had a frustrating transfer window in terms of finding a defender. They were unable to secure John Stones from Everton and also had two bids turned down on deadline day for Brazilian defender Marquinhos. They ended up signing 27-year-old Nantes defender Papy Djilobodji for £2.7 million and 23-year-old Reading defender Michael Hector for an undisclosed fee.

After failing to secure Berahino from West Brom, Tottenham still improved their attack, signing Son Heung-Min from Bayer Leverkusen for £22 million. The South Korean is Spurs’ third most-expensive signing, following behind Erik Lamela and Roberto Soldado but he will prove his money’s worth.

Southampton waited until the final day to secure their best transfer, with Dutchman Virgil Van Djik signed for £11.5 million as Saints’ ninth singing of the summer.

The biggest win for Everton was keeping Stones from a move to Chelsea, however they also signed highly rated players including Ramiro Funes Mori from River Plate, and Gerard Deulofeu from Sevilla. Aaron Lennon also completed a deadline day deal, which will bring them Premier League experience.

Leicester City have made an unreal start to the season, as the only team other than Manchester City to be undefeated from five matches. Shinji Okazaki and Nathan Dyer bring more attacking options, while Gokham Inler from Napoli strengthens the midfield.

Aston Villa singed a whole new starting XI, reinvesting from the sale of Benteke and Fabian Delph. Micah Richards is the club’s new captain, while they also secured a last-minute loan deal for Tiago Ilori from Liverpool.

Newcastle added a number of quality signings. Dutch International Georginio Wijnaldum signed from PSV Eindhoven for £14.5 million, but young Aleksandar Mitrovic has struggled to adapt, being sent off 36 minutes into the Magpies’ 1-0 loss to Arsenal last Saturday.

Andre Ayew has brought a different class to Swansea as their best signing this transfer window, and they didn’t pay a cent for the Ghanaian.

Alan Pardew made some quality signings, especially Yohan Cabaye from Paris Saint-Germain. Connor Wickham also joined the London club, bringing the total spending to £25.3 million.

The shock of the transfer window would be Xherdan Shaqiri signing with Stoke for a club-record fee from Inter Milan. With departures form Asmir Begovic and Steven Nzonzi, Stoke filled the gap with the likes of Ibrahim Afellay, Marco van Ginkel and Glen Johnson.

Sunderland have finally managed to sign loanee Fabio Borini on a permanent deal from Liverpool, with Jeremain Lens and Yann M’Vila among the names to arrive from abroad.

Watford were the busiest team in the window, recruiting 13 new players. The major signings were ex-Spurs midfielder Étienne Capoue for an undisclosed fee, and pacey winger Victor Ibarbo on loan from Cagiliari.

Premier League newcomers Norwich City seem to have made more of an impact with their loans then their buys, loaning Matt Jarvis, Dieumerci Mbokani and Andre Wisdom.

Premier League newboys Bournemouth signed 12 players, including Glenn Murray with the striker penning a three-year deal on deadline day.

We will just have to wait and see what impact these transfers have on their respective clubs.
