Match Result:

It was a fantastic ending to a very entertaining match of football which saw Ian Rush, John Aldridge and Luis Garcia score for the Liverpool Legends against the Australian Legends, winning the match 4-0.

Steve Corica had a good chance to open the scoring in the first half, but couldn’t beat Vladimir Smicer in a one-on-one. David Zdrilic also had several half chances during the first half to give the Liverpool Legends a good workout.

However, Luis Garcia opened the scoring for the Reds and added his second of the match not long after. It was 2-0 at the break, with stars such as Ian Rush, John Aldridge, Robbie Slater and Ante Milicic yet to make an appearance.

The second half saw Liverpool take the reigns after a somewhat even first half, with Steven Gerrard and Patrik Berger stealing the show in the middle of the park. Ian Rush got his goal not long after coming on, and John Aldridge scored with the last kick of the ball in an action packed game at ANZ Stadium.

Final Score:
Liverpool Legends 4-0 Australian Legends

Australian fans will get to see a host of famous Liverpool names in action tonight as they travel to the southern hemisphere for a match against the Australian Legends.

Steven Gerrard will be the headline act for the Liverpool team which also boasts Jamie Carragher, Ian Rush and Luis Garcia, and will be managed by Gerard Houllier.

The Australian team has recruited Robbie Slater to captain the side against his own hometown team, and the side will be managed by Graham Arnold with Robbie Farah assisting. Brett Emerton, Ned Zelic and Craig Moore are some of the others who will wear the green and gold.

There was some speculation in previous days as well that the code-hoping Jarryd Hayne might be a remarkable inclusion into the Australian Legends side but this hasn’t come to fruition. Hayne will conduct the coin toss at the match however.

Liverpool have made a number of trips to Australia before but this will be their first time appearing in Sydney – albeit in a unique form as a ‘Legends’ side – after previous visits to Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.

In a match like this it’s always incredibly difficult to tell which team might have the edge simply because there are so many variables behind the play. What impact has time had on these big names of days past?
