Shane Watson is the most polarising player in Australian cricket. He has been on the receiving end of a lot of flak from various Roarers and rightly so.

Watson’s ODI career seems to be over while he retired from long-form cricket last year following the Ashes.

But with a T20 World Cup to be held in India, Australia will no doubt need the two-time IPL player of the tournament to be at his very best.

Watson is vastly experienced in the Indian environment, plying his trade for Rajasthan Royals. He is Australia’s most experienced player in those conditions.

In the recently concluded T20 against India, Watson handled the Indian spinners with aplomb and in the process smashed a century.

While not the best player of spin in the country, he has the ability to unleash powerful shots through midwicket and long on. This can be even more effective in India with the small boundaries.

But it’s not just Watson’s batting, he has gotten back the knack of picking up crucial wickets. He was easily Australia’s leading bowler in the recently concluded T20 against India.

In addition, his death bowling was pretty neat. Watson seems to be really confident executing his yorker, and death bowling has been a major headache for Australia in the absence of pace ace Mitchell Starc.

Watson may not be in the same league as Starc, but he is by far the best Australia has. If Australia are to have a good tournament, Watson needs to produce a sensational display.
