It is strong in the Australian sports family. The AFL has it, the NRL has it, and now rugby union has it.

No, I’m not talking about the force, but a 360 analysis show where two hosts dissect the issues of the day and bring in guests to give their opinions out on live television.

Yes, Rugby 360 will be on our screens on Wednesday nights this year, to go along with, presumably, Rugby HQ on Thursdays.

This is in addition to rugby being shown on delay on Channel Ten on Sundays, which is a small but significant step in the right direction to getting the sport back on free-to-air television in this country.

According to the Daily Telegraph today, Greg Martin and Rod Kafer will be the hosts.

I like Kafe, and I don’t mind Marto as much as a number of people seem to in the rugby community. I can understand why he cops it, but in this case he’s probably perfectly cast as a fire-from-the-hip villain.

It does worry me a little that they didn’t choose a ‘journalist’ type to go along with former player, though Ben Ikin does a pretty good job on the NRL version of the show.

Still, I think rugby’s equivalent of the wonderful Gerard Whateley could do the show all sorts of favours.

Then again, who is rugby’s equivalent of Gerard Whateley?

The rest of the show is a bit of a mystery, with players and coaches said to be putting in appearances on an unspecified rotation.

I guess we’ll just have to see.

But I think any rugby on TV is better than no rugby on TV. So this rugby and sports fan is stoked.
