In what shapes as a blockbuster match, two of the top teams in the Western Conference do battle at the Staples Center, when the Los Angeles Clippers take on the San Antonio Spurs. Join The Roar for live scores from 2:30pm (AEDT).

Before the All-Stars break, the Clippers had won only three of their last five matches, and found themselves in some pretty sub-standard form. A five point loss in overtime to the Boston Celtics didn’t send them into the break the right way, and they will have the pressure on for wins from the get go on the other side.

Even though the Clippers managed to pick up those three wins, the only one even worth mentioning or getting slightly excited about is and seven point road win over the Miami Heat.

The Clippers currently sit in fourth place out west, 13.5 games back from the Golden State Warriors who lead the conference, and 10 games back from the Spurs, who sit in second place. Moving well inside the final 30 games of the season, both teams are in contention for a home first round final.

The Spurs’ form heading into the All-Stars break was strong, winning eight of their last 10 games. With Tim Duncan back on the floor after injury in those last few, they looked like a different team on the defensive end, and it took a lot of pressure off.

Tony Parker and Chris Paul headline this match. Both have been hot on scoring, and dishing assists out all season longer. You would have to think whoever wins their individual battle, leads their team to the match.

The Clippers and Spurs have so far only met once in the 2015-16 season. That was back in the middle of December, as the Spurs managed to record an eight-point win on home court. At that point in time, it improved the Spurs to a home record of 15 wins and zero losses.

Chris Paul was the star of the show, scoring 27 points, and jumping in with 10 assists to make it a double-double, however he couldn’t turn it into a win for the Clippers.

The Spurs shared the scoring around, with LaMarcus Aldridge top scoring, hitting 26 points with 11 of 18 from the field. He also came up with a massive 13 rebounds, guiding the Spurs towards the victory.

Prediction
The Spurs have a road record that is incredibly equal to that of the Clippers home record. With the Spurs ahead of the Clippers in almost every statistic, it should put them ahead in this one. At the same time, the Clippers have some very good passers and scorers, and a fast start could see them get the better of the Spurs.

It’s a great match in the making, but the Spurs by 2, with some potential over-time.
