Cricketers are told from a young age to accept the umpire’s decision but the Australian cricket team couldn’t hide their disgust at a DRS review that went against them during the fourth day of the second Test against New Zealand.

Fast bowler Josh Hazlewood was in no doubt he had trapped Black Cap batsman Kane Williamson LBW after going around the wicket.

Hazlewood and his teammates convinced captain Steve Smith to review the not out ruling and the DRS process played out.

The third umpire, Richard Illingworth saw a tiny hot spot on Williamson’s bat and told umpire Ranmore Martinesz to stay with his original not out ruling.

The decision incensed Hazlewood who was clearly heard in the stump microphone offering some choice words.

“Who the f*** is the third umpire?” Hazlewood demanded.

Smith was also heard questioning the decision.

Hazlewood has been charged by the ICC for dissent towards an umpire’s decision and has pleaded guilty.

It’s not a good look for the side with some of the host commentators hitting out at some of the player’s actions, especially Hazlewood.

“I’m sorry but that behaviour is intolerable,” Commentator Mark Richardson said.

Fellow commentator Ian Smith also slammed Steve Smith and Hazlewood.

“You live by the sword you die by the sword, it’s not this man’s (Umpire Martinesz’) fault,” Smith said.

“He gave it not not. You asked, he provided the evidence. He does not deserve a grilling out there.”

However, one kiwi commentator did offer sympathy for the Australian players with Simon Doull sticking up for Hazlewood and his teammates.

The players didn’t see the hot spot. They did not see the mark on the bottom of the bat,” Doull said.

“You can’t see it on the big screen at the ground. So that’s why they’re grumpy. So to sit at home and record what you see and to chastise players on social media — just have a little bit of understanding to where they’re at in the middle as well.”
