Parramatta Eels veteran Nathan Hindmarsh, who has been in retirement for three years is considering a shock return to the NRL, in an attempt to win a premiership.

In an interview with the Triple M Grill Team on Friday Morning, Hindmarsh hinted at the possibility of returning and continuing from his 330 games.

After making his debut in 1998, Hindmarsh played through until the end of the 2012 season.

Hindmarsh already holds for the record of most games played at the Eels, and says he has always wanted to win a premiership.

“There’s not a day goes by I don’t think about trying to win one of those,” he said.

“We’ll just have to wait and see.”

Hindmarsh knows how much of an impact it will have on his life though, and says it is a decision that can not be taken lightly.

“I’ll need to sit down and talk to my wife about it, trainers all that type of stuff… and whether the body’s going to cope with it as well.”

At 36 years of age, Hindmarsh would become the oldest player in the NRL and fans didn’t take long on social media to begin suspecting it was one of the Grill Team’s normal pranks, or an early April Fools Day joke.

However, Hindmarsh is serious, saying he has been trying to stay as fit as he can because he “doesn’t want to go out there and make a ‘dick’ of himself.”

The other half of his ‘Fletch and Hindy’ segment on Fox Sports Monday Night with Matty Johns, Brian Fletcher said if anyone could do it, then it would be Hindmarsh.

“He’s power walking every day. His diet has completely changed. He is garnishing his donuts with kale now,” he joked.

The Eels have said though, that at the present time there have been no discussions with Hindmarsh about a return to Rugby League for the club.

With Anthony Watmough struggling through knee pain, and possibly having to retire in the near future the discussion about Hindmarsh seems more relevant.

Roarers, what do you reckon? Could Nathan Hindmarsh make a comeback after three years out of the game?
