The Los Angeles Clippers will need to build a run of wins as the NBA heads towards the post-season if they want to secure a home first round final. They host the Cleveland Cavaliers, who sit on top of the Eastern Conference, but have looked shaky in recent times.

The Clippers currently sit in fourth position out in the west, and have just lost their grip ever so slightly in recent times, failing to challenge the Oklahoma City Thunder for third spot. Despite sitting only a game behind them with a record of 42 wins and 22 losses, they are still behind the Thunder.

This is largely due to the fact the Clippers have lost two of their last four matches, including one against the Thunder. They did however, have a strong win last time out though against the New York Knicks, with Chris Paul hitting 24 points and adding 15 assists.

Paul has to an effect carried the Clippers throughout the season, averaging 19.9 points per game ad 9.8 assists, which is almost a double double per game.

The Cavaliers meanwhile, have also been carried throughout the year – by LeBron James. He is averaging numbers of 24.9 points per game and 6.6 assists. Despite all that, it is time for others particularly those in the big three being Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love to stand up and shoulder that load.

The Cavaliers now hold a record of 46 wins and 18 losses, having won their last two straight. Before that though they had lost three of their last six in games they would have expected to win.

Their last outing saw the final ever Kobe Bryant and LeBron James battle, with the Cavaliers taking a 12-point win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

The teams have already met once this season. The Cavaliers were at home in that match, played back towards the end of January and would win fairly convincingly.

In a 13-point victory, Chris Paul scored 30 but couldn’t keep the Clippers in the match as LeBron James and JR Smith scored 22 each.

Prediction
The Cavaliers are in the midst of a road trip, and it should start to catch up with them. Expect Chris Paul to stand up and deliver the goods for Los Angeles.

Clippers by 9.
