The San Antonio Spurs are almost unbackable favourites when they take on the New Orleans Pelicans who are already out of playoffs contention at the AT&T Center. Join The Roar for live scores from 11:30am (AEDT).

The Spurs are sitting comfortably in second in the Western Conference, still 4.5 games behind the Golden State Warriors. They managed to beat the Warriors last week on the back of a mighty defensive performance and will be looking to build on that as we head to the playoffs.

San Antonio have another big challenge before the post-season begins though, as they will take on the Warriors twice next week. For that reason, expect them to use this week rest their key players. With that in mind, the likes of Tony Parker, Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili could all sit out here.

The Spurs now have a record of 62 wins and 12 losses, with just eight games left in their season. The loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder a few days ago won’t worry them though, as most of their starting team watched on from the sidelines.

The Pelicans are at just about the complete opposite end of the spectrum and are the latest team to drop out of playoff contention. Sitting 10th in the Western Conference, with a record of 27 wins and 46 losses, they have gone from disaster to disaster recently.

Not only do they have a mountain of injuries, but they have managed to lose 14 of their last 17 games to slide down the table. It has been an almost disgraceful effort from the Pelicans in recent times, and the end of the season simply can’t come quickly enough.

Without superstar Anthony Davis, who is one of the many Pelicans out for the season, it’s hard to see where New Orleans are going to get their production for this game from.

After the Pelicans won the first meeting at home between the sides this season, the Spurs have bounced back strongly winning the last two by 13 and eight points respectively.

Prediction
Impossible to tip against the Spurs here? They will rest players, but the Pelicans are in all sorts and this is going to be a blowout of epic proportions.

Spurs by 40.
