Seeing players go toe-to-toe and let off a bit of steam during a game isn’t a rare sight on the rugby field, but seeing a linesman start a ruckus is far less common.

That’s exactly what happened in a game in Germany. The touch judge in question sauntered onto the field, where a ruck had formed close to the sideline. He then aimed a few kicks at one of the players on the ground, much to the anger of his teammates, and almost started a fully-blown punch-up as a result.

The incident occurred in a German game between Heidelberger and Stuttgart. The “referee” in question wasn’t actually a professional official, but rather someone appointed by Stuttgart to fill-in after there weren’t any official touch judges available for the game.

After his antics, it’s hard to imagine the touchie being allowed anywhere near a rugby field anytime soon, let alone on the sideline again.
