After looking certain to make the top four, Manchester City slacked off towards the end of the Premier League season by drawing with Newcastle United, Norwich City and Arsenal. A loss to Southampton allowed Manchester United back in contention for the top four spot.

Luckily for City, United let a 2-1 lead slip to West Ham to lose 3-2 putting City in charge of their Champions League hopes. After the 1-1 draw with Swansea City on the last day of the Premier League season, United must beat Bournemouth 18-0 to make the top four. That’s not going to happen.

With Pep Guardiola taking over the blue side of Manchester, he can now breathe a sigh of relief after City finalised the Champions League play-off spot. Guardiola will be looking to take Manchester City further than this season’s Champions League campaign, where the Citizens bowed out to Real Madrid in the semi-finals.

Guardiola will also be looking for another Champions League crown after failing to win one at Bayern Munich manager for three years.

After managing two of the best teams in the world in Barcelona and Bayern Munich, City looks to be more of a challenge for Guardiola. The Premier League is one of the most unpredictable competitions in Europe, shown this season with Leicester City winning the league.

Pep Guardiola will be looking to strengthen the Manchester City squad as they prepare for a tilt at their third Premier League title. Many believe Guardiola will look for players from the Bundesliga and La Liga as he is familiar with the style of football played in Spain and Germany.

So how will the new Manchester City manager handle the Premier League? And where does Manchester City stand in the list of teams Guardiola has managed in his career?
