After a whirlwind week where he retired from the NFL and announced his intentions to play for Fiji at the Olympics, Jarryd Hayne has moved a step closer to his new dream.

The 28-year-old code hopper was officially named in Fiji’s 12-man squad to play in the London Sevens tournament.

The former Parramatta rugby league player will have to hit the ground running after limited training with the Fijian team.

Fiji plays England, Wales and Australia in a big first day of action. The Fijian team has the chance to wrap up the World Sevens series with a solid performance.

It remains to be seen how much game time Hayne will receive, but his inclusion will no doubt boost the interest in the tournament, especially if he lines up against Australia early on Sunday morning (AEST).
