In a blow to the USA Olympic men’s basketball team, two-time MVP Stephen Curry has announced he will not be putting his name up for selection to compete in the Games.

With the Golden State Warriors on the verge of another title and Curry already carrying a few injuries from the grueling season, he has opted to stay home and rest his knee.

In a further blow, San Antonio Spurs star forward LaMarcus Aldridge will also miss the Olympics with a finger injury.

The team was already resigned to the fact of not having Anthony Davis (rehabbing injuries), John Wall, Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, all of whom have opted not to attend, and the lingering possibility LeBron James will not take his place in the side.

Despite the lack of these stars, however, Team USA is still looking like the force that it should be. The likes of Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Kevin Durant have all said they would like to compete if they get the chance.

Paul George, who was tragically injured during a Team USA scrimmage before the World Championships in 2014, has also said he would like to compete.

Of the preliminary squad named the following players may be certainties to play unless something changes:

Kevin Durant
Russell Westbrook
Kawhi Leonard
Klay Thompson
James Harden
Draymond Green
Kyrie Irving
Demarcus Cousins
