This year’s Indian Premier League ended a few days back, and like always, it had a few hits and its share of misses. Let’s find out how the season unfolded.

Hits

Virat Kohli proving himself the GOAT
If you thought four hundreds and close to a thousand runs in a single IPL season was a distant utopian dream, then you for sure have been proven wrong.

With some charismatic batting and exceptional scoring ability, Kohli overcame Chris Gayle and Mike ‘Mr Cricket’ Hussey’s previous record of 733 runs by a big 240 runs. He also proved the naysayers wrong by topping the six-hitting chart with 38.

Above all, the RCB superstar’s captaincy was greatly lauded by a few of the sport’s legends. This probably was and will be his most memorable IPL campaign, unless he breaks his own records next season? As The Roar‘s user Suneer Chowdhary stated it, Kohli isn’t Bradmanesque. Bradman was Kohliesque.

David Warner: The one-man army
The Sunrisers are billed as a bowling heavy team, but are they really? Fair to say, this Australian wonder had a major impact in clinching their maiden IPL trophy. With a flurry of 90s, he finished the tourney with a massive 848 runs under his belt. That’s about 34 per cent of his team’s total runs. Hats off, I say!

The Fizz
Not an American film about a teen with a weird hairdo, we are talking about our Bangladeshi bowling prodigy Mustafizur Rahman. To say he was pretty much unplayable is an understatement. His deceiving cutters, devastating yorkers and brilliant line and length were catalytic for many a batsman’s downfall. Let’s hope he carries on!

Yuvraj Singh
No, he didn’t score a lot of runs, nor did he take a lot of wickets, but he for sure is showing solid signs of a return to form. Singh played crucial knocks when it was needed, particularly towards the end of the tournament.

Gautam Gambhir
‘Double G’ actually features in the top end of this year’s leading run scorers. Hopefully he gets a Test comeback.

Vivo hi-fi box
The concept of having a special compartment for a few lucky fans witnessing all the action is actually great. Shows how our beloved sport is modernising.

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s away jersey
Again, something new to cricket brought about, surely, as a product of globalisation.

Misses

KKR at the auction
The Kolkata Knight Riders went for Colin Munro instead of somebody like Martin Guptill, and then hardly gave him a chance. Also, no new faces popped up this time around.

Rising Pune Supergiants
With such a royal (and ‘well’ thought out) name, RPS had a disastrous first of two campaigns. One of the only times we saw MS Dhoni enjoying the playoffs from his home.

Kings XI Punjab
Even The likes Glenn Maxwell and David Miller will sincerely try to forget this campaign. Every time they taste success, this season’s memory will come back to haunt them.

Pawan Negi
Didn’t live up to his contract fee. (US)$1.4 million is a bit too much of a splurge on somebody who hasn’t really fired.

Sunil Narine
He has clearly lost his teeth.

Axing of Harsha
Harsha Bhogle got into a spat with the BCCI and was axed from further commentary in the IPL. He was certainly missed in commentary box where he let his oratory genius define him.

Vitara Brezza’s glam shot
How do you decide which is a glam shot and which is not?

Injuries
A lot of quality players like Steve Smith had to leave midway due to injuries.

Sanju Samson
Wait, did he play this year? People always have high expectations of him, but he continues to underperform. The next Rohit Sharma.
