Get rid of the NRL's third party agreements

What is the reason behind the salary cap in the NRL?

To make it an even playing field for buying and keeping talent? Parramatta got caught with it this year, Canterbury back in 2002 and Melbourne in 2010. I would like to say the salary cap is actually working but with the third party agreement deals allowed, it has totally flipped the system.

There are players who get paid brain surgeon bucks just to keep them at a club or go to a new one. Rugby league shouldn’t be about the money, it should be about playing football but sadly, with most new generation players, it’s about the cash.

There are some players who remain loyal because they’re happy for who they play for and not the money they’re getting. There are some players who have accepted pay cuts to remain loyal to their team so the money can be used towards keeping the club’s juniors.

The third party agreements have totally taken the salary cap out of the equation and for God knows what reason, the NRL board are not doing anything about it. This may not be the kindest of things to post but it’s about time someone says their opinion about it. I do expect some to disagree and I welcome that, as you’re entitled to your opinion just as much as I am.

The third party agreements have to be banned and the highest-paid players need to take pay cuts to prove exactly how loyal they are. The English Super League has none of this garbage and that’s why plenty of NRL players end up playing in England or changing codes.

I really hope the NRL board finds it in themselves to do something about this because the salary cap is designed to keep the rich teams from buying all the best players and prevent the poor teams from being left to struggle in the mud.
