Sweet revenge as Waratahs put on a clinic to storm to Super Rugby W title after perfect season
The Tahs won 50-14 after going through the 2024 season undefeated and avenging the semi-final loss last year to Fijian Drua.
A new era of Samoan rugby begins today as Manu Samoa host Georgia in what should be a well-contested international. Join The Roar for live scores from 12 midday (AEST).
Having picked a squad containing a dozen uncapped players, Samoan head coach Namulau’ula Alama Ieremia is keen to bring in new blood to a team looking to establish themselves as a potential dark horse come the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
Samoa’s squad however still contains veterans David Lemi and Faatiga Lemalu, who will be tasked with leading Samoa against a tough Georgian outfit.
Georgia should be considered one of the more competitive rugby minnows. On their day, their pack is as strong as most tier one nations and their ability to compete at the breakdown will test Samoa.
Uncapped Samoan loose forward Greg Foe faces a baptism of fire upfront against a tough Georgian pack. Foe however has shown enough good form to suggest that he will be more than up to the challenge.
In terms of flamboyance with the ball, Samoa possesses a clear edge over their rivals. Georgia, as a, result will be looking to turn this contest into a forward battle.
Head coach Milton Haig is a student of rugby, and will no doubt have a plan to disrupt Samoa’s enterprising play with the football.
If Georgia can win the battle upfront, they can cause the upset. If Samoa are able to play a high-tempo game however, their class with the ball should see them earn the win.
