The Opals’ strong start in Rio has continued on Day 2 of competition, securing a five-point win against Turkey.

Backing up from their nine-point win on Day 1 against hosts Brazil, the Opals looked a little shaky early, allowing Turkey to hold the lead throughout the first half.

The Australians would rally in the third quarter, however, and hold a two-point lead heading into the final break.

In what was a relatively sloppy performance from both sides, the class of Aussie Liz Cambage (22-points) and Turk LaToya Sanders (25 points) would be put on show in the second half as the two tried to will their teams to victory.

That sloppiness would also result in a steep foul count (the teams combined for 41 for the match) of which Cambage was a contributor.

Although Cambage led the way for the Australians on the scoresheet, that foul trouble saw her forced from the court at crucial points in the second half.

With Cambage off the court, Sanders was dominant for Turkey, which left the door open for a late fightback.

However, some clutch shots from Penny Taylor and Leilani Mitchell in the final quarter would keep the Opals at arms length, allowing them to make it two wins from their first two matches at Rio 2016.
