It’s official. Matthew Dellavedova’s ascent from country Victorian to NBA champion will be turned into a Hollywood film.

What is the world coming to?

Australia’s very own 26-year-old, Corona-drinking, bench-sitting NBA phenom Matthew Dellavedova is getting his own movie.

And what’s more to the point, the former Cleveland Cavalier will be executive producer of the feature!

According to his agent, Delly’s rise to the NBA is one in a million and his story will inspire others to make their dreams a reality.

This collision of film and ball twigs a raft of questions.

1. Who is man enough to play Delly?
As every Hollywood-based Australian actor rushes to their phone to put their hand up to play Australia’s foremost hero, it’s time to wonder who actually is qualified to portray a man whose ability to advertise Corona tins outweighs any other.

The last name Hemsworth springs to mind, although Thor really doesn’t embody the god-like physique of our boy Delly.

Hugh Jackman could add a musical element to the mix.

And to be very honest with you, I’m frothing at the prospect of a Delly musical in which a young Matthew goes on a marvellous Wizard of Oz-style journey to the NBA. Of course, naturally, Michael Jordan would play the wizard.

Rumours have swirled that legendary wrestler and actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is keen to play the role of Delly, although he would need to buff up a bit…

Although, could anyone really play Delly as well as the man himself? His Aussie charm is crying out for the big screen as he trades the locker room for the dressing room.

2. How on Earth will producers make Dellavedova’s minimal role in the Cavs’ triumph movie-worthy?
The story of a small town country boy’s journey to an NBA ring. There’s just one problem with that unbelievable tagline…

He didn’t really do much to help the Cavs win the championship.

Not sure if anyone’s heard of a guy called LeBron James, but he actually pulled the majority of the strings as the Cavs chased down the Warriors from a 3-1 deficit.

In fact, the fewer minutes Delly played, the greater the result for the Cavs. Coming back from 3-1, Delly spent just five minutes in total on the court.

I, for one, can’t wait to see the editing brilliance needed to make it look like he played a leading role in the triumph. Hopefully, they just edit his head onto LeBron’s body.

3. Why? Just Why?
There are many stories out there crying out for the Hollywood treatment.

So why pick a guy who has played in the NBA for just four years, is nowhere near the end of his career, and whose biggest achievement in basketball to date is basically befriending LeBron James?

Not to knock Delly, but honestly, just why?

Jason Shuman and Zachary Green will produce the film which is scheduled to begin production in 2017 on Australian shores.

Here’s hoping it earns a catchy title, like UnderDelly or Delly Day Care.
