Match preview:

Melbourne Victory will look to add another win to their tally in this A-League season when they host the Newcastle Jets at AAMI Park on Saturday afternoon. Join The Roar for live scores and a live blog of the match, starting from 5:35pm (AEDT).

Victory have recorded three wins and a draw this year and find themselves in a middling fifth position on the A-League table, however, they’ve got an ace-in-the-hole in that they’ve played less games than other sides particularly due to last week’s postponed match that was to be played in Wellington.

A couple of quick wins when they get the chance to make up that ground could catapult them right into the upper echelon of the league, and coming up against the struggling Newcastle Jets today is a perfect opportunity to do that.

The Jets currently find themselves eighth on the A-League table – from seven matches played, they have just a single win, three draws and three losses for a total of six points.

That win came in the third week of the season when they had a dominant performance at home against the Brisbane Roar, winning 4-0. Since then however they’ve gone on a five-match winless streak, losing to Sydney, Wellington and Melbourne City in recent weeks before a draw with the Central Coast Mariners last time around.

The Victory have had some big wins in through the season, defeating Wellington Phoenix 6-1 and most recently the Western Sydney Wanderers 3-0, but couldn’t get over the form side of the League in Sydney FC when they met them a few weeks ago, losing 1-2.

Prediction
Over the balance of the season so far the Victory are clearly the better side of these two. The only concern is that with a fortnight since their last game, they may take a while to get into the groove again – and the Jets could use that opportunity to pounce. Still, Victory should win out.

Melbourne Victory to win 2-1.
