The second ‘Big Blue’ of the season is set to erupt in a fiery red inferno as Sydney FC travel to Melbourne in an attempt to bury Victory’s title hopes with one last nail in the coffin.

Sydney FC skipper Alex Brosque mentioned the importance of the match to Victory and the pressure on the Melbourne side to keep up the pace with the ‘invincible’ Sky Blues.

“They need the win, they need to get the result, the pressure isn’t on us to perform”

And the captain is right, can Victory close an 11-point deficit with ten rounds left in the form Sydney FC are in? Possibly not considering they face another Melbourne Derby and Big Blue in Sydney.

One man who is set to get his first taste of A-League football is Sydney FC’s new Dutch signing, centre-back Jordy Buijs. He signed last week on a five-month deal, with an option for another season.

Buijs was signed by Arnold in an attempt to plug the whole left by Matthew Jurman. Described as a ‘ball-playing defender’ the Dutchman offers the composure that’s been run down recently going forward as Sydney build up from the back.

Buijs felt confident of his ability saying “I have seen the media call me a ball-playing defender, I like having the ball, I feel confident with passing and not bad at set pieces also”

Sydney FC fans and neutrals alike are excited and eager to see their new signing in Sky Blue considering his extravagant highlight reel that involves elements of flair as well as spectacular free-kicks and penalties.

The Dutchman is no stranger to big matches, playing for his now manager Graham Arnold’s former employers in SC Heerenveen and Roda JC.

“I need the pressure, if there is no pressure, I am not at my best” the new signing said ahead of the beginning of his new journey in Sky Blue.

Buijs will be stationed in his first match alongside Socceroo Alex Wilkinson as 21-year-old Aaron Calver will shift over to right-back to cover for the suspended Rhyan Grant, who just signed a new two-year deal.

Arnold is confident of Aaron Calver’s ability and the manager praised his versatility after their 2-0 win against Adelaide United. “we’ve got (Aaron) Calver who can move over to the right, he’s got exceptional pace, he covers the ground very well”

Key battle: Buijs versus Berisha
The league’s top goalscorer and trademark hard-man Besart Berisha relishes the big stage, these occasions against Sydney and the like bring the best out of the Albanian. He always proves a handful for defenders considering he is both strong on the ball and in the air.

What a first Test for Jordy Buijs. The new signing will get to see just what the A-League is all about as he enters the fray for Sydney in the biggest game of the season.
